I never knew how much I would miss you, miss your smile, miss your presence, miss your soul,
It completely and totally caught me utterly off-guard, the day you disappeared.
I was not prepared for it in the slightest, not even remotely ready to wake up and not have you there —
But sure as summer and right as rain, true as sun and quick as tomorrow, you are gone.
Now that I think about it, I believe this is among the very first poems I ever wrote, and the first one on this blog. The way it happened was just as it reads, a reflection on the suddenness of a friend moving away. I intended on writing it as prose, but realized it might read better in the form of verse. —M. B.
