Sandburg

Hyacinths and chrysanthemums,

Biscuits and rice,

Honey spilled lightly

On the bright tablecloth.

Cornbread and margarine

Getting cold off to one side,

Corn flakes grown soggy

In their white paradise.

Sunlight breaks through, the day has come on

The minutes clack by slowly

Before we are done.
